Sitting at the Dinner Table

How often do you sit as a family around the dinner table? This has always been my favorite time of day. We sit together at dinner most every night. We don't rush through dinner because it is our time to talk to one another. We talk about our daily experiences, we talk about music, we discuss really anything and every thing. It is lively and everyone participates. My youngest is equally engaged and enthusiastically shares her opinions along with everyone else.
I also love having guests come for dinner. This week staying with my daughter and son-in-law, dinner time was no different. we sat around the table each night enjoying the meal and the conversation. Last night a friend of theirs joined us too, and it was a delightful evening that seemed to pass all too quickly.
However, I know from talking to some of my friends that this is becoming more of a lost pastime because lives are too busy. If this is true for you then please rethink that because these times are a treasure in my memories. It brings me such joy to see the warmth and comradery and to know that at the dinner table my children became friends. They will, of course, always be siblings, but knowing they are friends is a little something more. I also know they will always set another plate and welcome guests. Entertaining and dinner parties don't have to be elaborate it just has to be welcoming. Most of the time when people join us, I have done nothing more than add a plate, there is always plenty of food because I learned from my mother to always make enough so everyone is satisfied and you have a little leftover.
